Rain fell across West Central Missouri last weekend, and some have thought with the rain there would be no more burn ban.  However, the rain that fell was not enough to drop the burn ban in Pettis County according Mike Harding of the Pettis County Fire Department.

Harding said, “It’s going to take a lot more rain than what we got this past weekend in order to green things up and slow things up for those would be burning.  The burn ban is in effect.  If we do respond to a fire of open burning we will have a deputy respond with us, there will be a summons issued.”

Harding said there have been numerous summons issued since the burn ban went into effect. “It puts stresses on everybody and everything whenever people burn and would like for everyone to refrain from burning until further notice,” he said.

If you do see smoke or fire and no emergency services have called, you’re advised to call the Pettis County Sheriff’s Office at 827-0052, and if it is an emergency, call 911.
