A 63-year old man was arrested Monday morning in Benton County on weapons offences.

A press release from the Benton County Sheriff's Department says deputies and the Missouri State Highway Patrol responded to Headwaters Motel to locate 63-year old Mark Tousignant, who was reported to be in one of the rooms.

The press release says Tousignant was wanted for absconding on weapons and explosive charges from Saline County, MO.

Tousignant reportedly barricaded himself in the room and refused to talk to negotiators. After several hours of no contact, the MSHP Swat Team was called as well as the Bomb Disposal Unit.

The press release indicates that after numerous additional attempts to establish contact, the Swat Team introduced pepper balls through the window to no avail. It took a 40 mm tear gas canister for Tousignant to come out.

Tousignant was then treated at the scene for minor scrapes and tear gas inhalation. Afterwards, he was taken to the Benton County Jail.
