We were a bit bummed to learn that ‘Boardwalk Empire‘ showrunner Terence Winter had accepted a season 5 end to the HBO prohibition drama in order to develop his new 1970s New York rock drama with Bobby Cannavale, Mick Jagger and Martin Scorsese, but the proposed series just got a whole lot prettier. Olivia Wilde will return to TV for the new HBO period drama, but as whom, you ask?

Previously titled ‘History of Music,’ the new drama stems from an idea by Rolling Stones frontman Mick Jagger, with Martin Scorsese on board to executive produce. Cannavale stars as Richie Finestra, a handsome and charismatic New Yorker who heads A&R at American Century Music and undergoes a crisis of character when confronted with a life-altering decision. The cocaine-fueled record executive operates in New York City circa 1977, when “punk, disco and a new form of music called hip-hop collided.”

Having previously starred in four seasons of FOX’s ‘House,’ Wilde will play Richie’s wife Devon Finestra, a former actress/model who lived a Bohemian life in 1960s New York. Richie’s crisis causes a strain on their family and drives Devon to re-immerse in her former lifestyle.Winter wrote the script for the pilot, joining Jagger and Scorsese as executive producers, along with Jagged Films partner Victoria Pearman and Scorsese’s manager, Rick Yorn. ‘Breaking Bad‘ alum George Mastras will act as showrunner

Production will start in Summer 2014, but in the meantime, what do you think? Does HBO’s untitled rock and roll drama have your attention?
