Miranda Lambert has put her spin on Elton John's 1970 song "My Father's Gun."

The song was originally featured on John's third studio album, Tumbleweed Connection, and was an early favorite of Bob Dylan. The country star's version appears on a new Elton John tribute album, Restoration.

"My Father's Gun" tells the story of a young Confederate soldier who finds himself burying his father, who was killed during the Civil War. He picks up his father's gun and rejoins the battle.

"I'll not rest until I know the cause is fought and won / From this day on until I die I'll wear my father's gun," Lambert sings, acting as the narrator. The country star's version is more stripped-down than John's original and, as a result, is more somber.
