On Sunday, September 18, Children’s Mercy will remember its families and children during the 20th annual “Celebration of Life” memorial service. The service is part of the hospital’s Aftercare Program.
The memorial service will be for all those whose lives have been touched by children who are no longer alive: parents, grandparents, siblings and caregivers. The service will allow parents a chance to celebrate their child’s life, create a memorial and to connect with other parents who have had similar experiences. The program will include remarks by a parent and Children’s Mercy caregivers, music, a quilt dedication and a butterfly release. The Aftercare Program at Children’s Mercy is designed to provide a compassionate support system for terminally ill children and their families, families experiencing the loss of a child and the hospital staff who care for them.

The event will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, September 18 at the Sheraton Kansas City Hotel at Crown Center, ballroom level.

Any members of the media planning to attend need to RSVP by 12:00 p.m. on Sept. 18 to Lisa Augustine (laugustine@cmh.edu).
