The annual Lub Dub Run was held at Bothwell Regional Health Center Saturday morning, April 30 with a nice, refreshing drizzle falling on 568 runners and walkers.

There was a 5K and 10K route to choose from this year, and a commemorative event medal was presented to everyone who crossed the finish line. KIX-105's Beau Matthews was the emcee for the highly popular event.

The event was organized by the BRHC Foundation. The Foundation resources make possible: the latest medical equipment and facilities for the best patient diagnosis and treatment; disease prevention and health education for community heath-care needs; recruiting and retaining the best medical staff for this area; and locally managed and community owned health care.

"We were up slightly from what we had last year," said Lisa Church, Foundation executive director. "Early indications are that we will top $40,000 in fund-raising, which will be a new record. Our gross income last year was $33,400. The reason for the increase is mainly an increase in our sponsorships."

Funds raised benefit the Camye Callis Gaspard Memorial Heart Fund, which have been used to purchase equipment for the hospital's cardiac cath lab, exercise equipment for the cardiac rehab program, and most recently AEDs here in Sedalia and in Benton County. The fund was created by the Callis-Gaspard families after Camye, a daughter, sister, wife and mother, died of undiagnosed heart disease at a young age. Many of Camye’s family were there -- as they are every year – and handed out medals.

Something new this year was finish medals; everyone crossing the finish line received a medal. We also have a Corporate Challenge, where companies compete in different categories. Corporate Challenge winners were:

Company with greatest number of employees participating: ProEnergy
Company with highest percentage of employees participating: Bichsel Jewelry
Company with best overall finish in 5K race: Bothwell Regional Health Center
