Local businesses will be offering customers special incentives September 15-16 during Shop United, a fundraiser to benefit the Sedalia-Pettis County United Way.

"We have 10 local retailers who are participating in this," said Staci Harrison, executive director of the Sedalia-Pettis County United Way. "It's an opportunity to give where you live, not only through the United Way, but by supporting our local retailers."

During Shop United, participating businesses in downtown Sedalia will raise funds for the Sedalia-Pettis County United Way, either by donating a percent of their proceeds from the event, a percent of an item sold, or a straight donation to the Sedalia-Pettis County United Way.

Harrison says that all money raised by the Sedalia-Pettis County United Way stays local. "When you give to your local United Way, it's the community giving dollars to address community issues. We're focusing on the areas of education, income and health, and some safety net services so that we can be part of a solution to break cycles of poverty.100% of what is raised stays here in Pettis County, and we put it into services."

Participating Shop United businesses include: Becca’s Framing, Pro-Velo, Dugan’s Paint & Flooring, Elite Fitness, Wilken Music, Stone Laser Imaging, Pride Detailing, Classic Jewelry, The Shepherd’s Place and Swords’ Family Pharmacy.

Shoppers will also have an opportunity to win prizes during Shop United, including gift cards, prints and a personalized picture frame.
