Lee’s Summit Man Killed in I-470 Accident

The Missouri State Highway Patrol says a 58-year-old Lee's Summit man was killed late on March 5 in an accident on I-470.

According to an online crash report, a 2010 Toyota overtook and struck the rear of a 2002 Chevrolet. Both vehicles traveled into the median. The Chevrolet overturned and ejected the driver, 58-year-old Carl A. Martin. The vehicle then came to rest and caught on fire. Martin was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the Toyota, 41-year-old Dung N. Phan, was taken to Centerpoint Hospital for the treatment of minor injuries. The Missouri State Highway Patrol reports that Phan was arrested on a charge of driving while intoxicated.
