According to the Sedalia Democrat, two area organizations, the Sedalia Kiwanis Club and VFW Post No. 2591 and Ladies Auxiliary, are giving students opportunities for scholarships.

The Kiwanis has announced the opportunity for area high school seniors. Information has been distributed to area guidance counselors concerning the Earl Collins Scholarship available through the MO-ARK District of Kiwanis International. The Earl Collins Memorial Scholarship Fund was established in 1960 to perpetuate the memory of Dr. Earl A. Collins, an educator, past MO-ARK Kiwanis governor, and secretary. Area high school seniors can apply for a $1,000 scholarship. The deadline to apply is January 15, 2016. For more information, contact Bob Milner at 660-473-1270.

The Sedalia VFW Post and Ladies Auxiliary is sponsoring several scholarship programs for area students in grades six through 12. The three scholarships are the Patriot's Pen, the The Voice of Democracy, and the Young American Creative Patriotic Art Award. Prizes are progressive and and awarded at local, district, state, and national levels. Entires may earn more then $30,000 to be used to further the student's education.
