Kenny Chesney and Tim McGraw have been breaking attendance records at stadiums all over the U.S. this summer. Chesney’s 22-city/23-stadium Brothers of the Sun Tour wrapped this weekend at Gillette Stadium in Foxboro, Mass., selling a record-breaking 111,209 tickets over two shows. That’s just icing on the cake for the ‘brothers,’ who put on the highest-grossing tour of the summer, which sold over a million tickets in all.

Not only did Chesney and McGraw sell more tickets than any other musical tour this summer, but they broke a few other records, too. Dan Murphy, Vice President of External Affairs for Gillette Stadium, called the performance in Foxboro “a record for the biggest country music event in New England history.” This record came just two weeks after the legendary country stars played hosts to the biggest ticketed country show in New York City and New Jersey history, thanks to a sell-out crowd at their show at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, N.J.

Chesney and McGraw wowed fans during the hot summer months by expertly combining their fan-favorite hits — like Chesney’s ‘Beers in Mexico’ and McGraw’s ‘I Like It, I Love It’ — with new material that fans were dying hear. During the last concert, Chesney paid tribute to Boston by playing ‘She’s From Boston’ for a roaring crowd.

In fact, fans were so into the two-day event that must have forgotten how to conduct themselves in public. More than 100 concertgoers were arrested at Gillette Stadium for charges ranging from minors in possession of alcohol, to disorderly conduct, to trespassing.

But overall, it was a huge success.

“It was easy to see why people have been calling the Brothers of the Sun Tour one of the biggest country music events that the New England area has ever… And though the tour ends after tonight’s performance, it seemed like they could take the show around the country once more,” Boston Metro wrote about the tour.

“I couldn’t imagine bringing this incredible journey to a close anywhere else but Gillette Stadium,” Chesney said in a statement. “The fans in New England welcome us with such energy year after year, and it was the perfect ending to one of the most fun tours I’ve been a part of.”
