Kelsea Ballerini will soon release her sophomore studio album, and fans can expect to hear a more mature side and pop sound from the country starlet.

In an interview with GQBallerini opens up about the direction her sophomore album is moving in and how she's grown since her breakthrough project, The First Time. She admits that the new record shows off her growth over the past few years.

"I have to be honest about growing up and becoming a young woman. That's why we picked 'Yeah Boy' to be the last single from the first album—there's nothing like that on this next record," Ballerini says.

While the yet-to-be-released project shows off a new facet of the star, she assures that her young audience will still be able to identify with her like they did when she first launched onto the country music scene in 2015. "The whole heartbeat of the first record is young, which I think is what made it relatable to young girls. Which was a really special thing," the "Peter Pan" singer explains. "And so I'm careful to acknowledge that when I'm writing now. I still want to keep those young girls that liked that version of my music."

Ballerini is currently one of the opening acts on Thomas Rhett's 2017 Home Team Tour that crosses the U.S. and Canada throughout the spring and summer. Rhett and crew will also make several stops in the United Kingdom in England, Scotland and Ireland. Ryan Hurd and Russell Dickerson are also a part of the tour as supporting acts.
