On Monday (May 9), Keith Urban packed an estimated 10,000 fans into Bridgestone Plaza for a free concert to celebrate the release of his new album, Ripcord. The lunchtime show drew fans from all over -- Taste of Country ran into someone from Alaska -- as Urban tore through a set of brand-new tunes and some old favorites.

After opening with "Gone Tomorrow (Here Today)," Ripcord's first song, the country superstar performed everything from "Sweet Thing" to "John Cougar, John Deere, John 3:16." Fans can press play above and below to watch Urban sing two new tracks, "Gettin' in the Way" and "Blue Ain't Your Color." The latter, a blues-y track, was more subdued, while the former, Urban ended with a fierce guitar solo.

Released on Friday (May 6), Ripcord finds Urban exploring new creative terrain in a way he never has on his previous albums.

“I really haven’t thought in terms of parameters at all with this record, but I feel very sure that I’ve stayed true to myself musically, and that’s really the journey for me,” the singer acknowledges. “I want to go out to the edges of where I can go, before I lose myself and then it just doesn’t sound like me anymore.”

Urban's Music City concert was one of three free shows promoting Ripcord. On Tuesday night (May 10), he will take the stage at the Grammy Museum’s 200-seat Clive Davis Theater, for an event dubbed Inside the Songs of Ripcord. Scott Goldman, vice president of the Grammy Foundation and MusiCares, will moderate the event, during which Urban will give intimate performances and share the stories behind the writing, producing and recording of his new disc.

On June 2, the country star will begin his Ripcord World Tour in Kansas City, Mo.
