While it was widely reported that well-coiffed country star Keith Urban had accepted the offer to replace long-running judge Randy Jackson on ‘American Idol,’ new reports have surfaced indicating that the deal is not completed and has not been signed, and is therefore not finalized. But it’s close. Very close.

TMZ reports that Urban is in the final negotiation stages with the producers behind one of the biggest reality singing shows on TV. The singer is reportedly working out some minor kinks in his contract and once those deal points are settled, he will sign his name on the dotted line and officially become a judge. There doesn’t seem to be any concern about these “kinks” being deal breakers and Urban is considered a “lock” to board the show.

Urban will paid somewhere in the ballpark of $3 to $4 million, which is nothing to sneeze at, but is a pittance when compared to the $18 million that new judge Mariah Carey received to join the show. Despite the fact that producers are getting Urban at a deep discount, relatively speaking, we have no doubts that he will do his level best to help find America’s next ‘Idol’ and that country music will be well represented during Season 12 in 2013.
