K.C. Man Sentenced for 2015 Sedalia Bank Robbery

A man from Kansas City was recently sentenced to a prison sentence, for a bank robbery that occurred at Central Bank of Sedalia in November 2015.

The case of David O. Waters III was tried by a jury on April 20.

According to a press release from Pettis County Prosecuting Attorney Phillip Sawyer, Waters was found guilty of First Degree Robbery. Sawyer said in the release, 'due to Mr. Waters prior criminal history, sentencing was to be determined by the Court.' The sentencing hearing was held Monday (June 5).

In the original report, Waters was said to have been armed at the time of the robbery, demanded money at Central Bank, located at 301 West Broadway, and fled the bank with the stolen money on November 20, 2015.

Sedalia Police located Waters in the area of East Chestnut and North Engineer later that afternoon, when he was arrested. However, a gun was never found.

Sawyer recommended that Waters be sentenced to 20 years, partially on the defendant's prior criminal history, which included a conviction for an attempted robbery in which the victim was killed, in a separate incident.

According to the press release, no specific recommendation was made on behalf of the defendant, other than a request for leniency.

At the end of the hearing, Waters was sentenced to 16 years in the Department of Corrections.
