Grand Ole Opry star Jim Ed Brown will return to the stage of the country music institution this weekend after getting the news that he is cancer-free.

Brown announced that he had been diagnosed with lung cancer in September 2014 in a post to Facebook. His doctors advised him to take four months off to undergo a regimen of chemotherapy and radiation.

In a press release Wednesday (Jan. 28), the singer revealed that the treatment worked. He got the news that he is free of cancer on Jan. 19.

"I am in remission," Brown states. "There are not enough thanks for the prayers, well wishes, and support I've received during the toughest time of my life. I am so grateful."

Brown rose to fame in the '60s as a member of the Browns, a trio that included his sisters, Maxine and Bonnie. They joined the Opry in 1963 at the invitation of Ernest Tubb. He launched a solo career shortly after, scoring hits including 'Pop a Top,' his signature song. He also teamed with Helen Cornelius for a string of hit duets in the '70s and '80s that included 'I Don't Want to Have to Marry You' and 'Saying Hello, Saying I Love You, Saying Goodbye.' He released his most recent album, 'In Style Again,' on Jan. 20.

The country legend will make his Opry return with two appearances on Friday, Jan. 30, and Saturday, Jan. 31, both during the 8:45PM CT segment of the show. He will also be on hand to sign copies of 'In Style Again' at the Opry store from 9:15-10PM on Saturday. Fans can listen to both shows as they stream online here.
