Jenny Gill may be the offspring of a country music icon, but on Feb. 17, Vince Gill's daughter will come into her own musically: The country singer-songwriter is set to release her debut EP, The House Sessions, on that date.

The House Sessions will blend country, Americana and blues to create a unique sound befitting a women who has grown up surrounded by good music: Gill's father, of course, has released 20 studio albums and won more Grammy awards than any other male country artist, but, additionally, her mother is Janis Oliver, who is one-half of the country duo Sweethearts of the Rodeo, and her stepmom is Amy Grant, who has made her mark on country, pop and Christian music (and with whom Gill has been touring as a backup singer for six years). Her family's musical legacy has certainly shaped her, but Gill hopes that her debut album will prove that she's her own person, with her own unique story to tell.

“People have a preconceived perception of me because of my name, that I am country or that my talent should be at a certain place because of my parents’ accomplishments,” Gill says in a press release announcing her new EP. “It’s hard to get people to notice you on your own and not for being a plus-one. So that is what The House Sessions is attempting to do.

"I am done waiting in the wings wondering what could happen," Gill adds. "I’m ready to try and build something all on my own.”

For The House Sessions, Gill recorded songs that are her own, and recruited high-caliber musicians such as Sheryl Crow, Willie Weeks, Jack Pearson and Jon Randall for the production process. The EP will feature six tracks, five of which bear Gill's name on the writing credits.

For Gill, The House Sessions is a project many years in the making. She draws from a wealth of life experiences, with each song reflecting on a different part of her story.

“Every song on this project takes me to somewhere in my past,” she explains. “My favorite songs to write are those that reflect personal experiences instead of just telling a story.”
