It has been nearly a week with laryngitis.  I do rest my voice as often as possible, but in my line of work, that's not always easy.  People keep telling me about their home remedies, but in my experience, none of them actually work.  Seeing a doctor seems to be the next step.  There's a small issue with that though.  My primary care physician retired recently and I don't have a new one.  Doctor shopping isn't fun.  I have a few things that I look for in a new healthcare provider.

  1. They don't need to run a bunch of unnecessary tests to make a diagnosis.  If I have a sore throat,  I don't need a MRI.
  2. They LISTEN to what I'm telling them when I have an issue.  Too often, they think they've seen it all before and are quick to diagnose rather than get the full picture.
  3. This is probably the most important thing.  They have to be able to squeeze patients in the same day they call.  Illness means missed work and other activities.  I don't get cranky when I'm sick.  I get cranky if I'm out of the studio too long or miss appearances due to illness.

I'll put the question to you.  Which physician should I take my medical records to and why?
