I am and intensely curious person.  When there's tons of hype over something, I have to see what it is all about.  I read '50 Shades of Grey' and now I've watch 'Magic Mike'.  Yet again, I found myself wondering what all the hype was about.

It is just another movie about an inside look into the adult entertainment industry.  The gender roles are reversed, so instead of seeing scantily clad women like we saw in 'Showgirls,' we see men.  Instead of a woman not being seen for more than her body, we see a man being treated like a piece of meat. Instead of a woman working towards a loftier goal, we have a man.  All in all, it was the same movie we've seen before.

I can see where women would enjoy the dance scenes.  There are shirtless men with six-pack abs gyrating suggestively to music.  They have different costumes and dance moves in various scenes.  It is the same type of content that, if the gender roles were reversed, men have been spending years being chastised for watching.  So either ladies are going to lighten up on us guys or the double standard is alive and well.  Time will tell.

The film did have its moments that caused me to chuckle and was well done.  The ending is predictable (I won't spoil it) and I appreciated Olivia Munn's character. You'll understand why if you see the movie.

Bottom line: guys have no reason to fear this movie, it isn't something that will awaken your inner homophobe and your partner will appreciate you watching it with her.
