The National Weather Service wants you to be careful with the high heat that is expected today (June 25) through West Central Missouri. The temperatures are expected to be around 95 degrees with the heat index heading up to 101 at times.

There may be some relief coming tonight, however it's a double edge sword with the National Weather Service also predicting that we could have two to four inches of rain. A flash flood watch has been issued from 7 tonight until 1 tomorrow afternoon (June 26).

Sedalia/Pettis County EMA Director provided some more insight on the high heat and rain that is expected.

A mixed bag of weather over the next few days.

Pettis County is in a Slight Risk for severe weather today. Which means that isolated severe storms are possible. We have a 2% chance of Tornados, 15% chance of High Winds and a 15% chance of large hail. If we are to get this I expect that it may start as early as 8 PM tonight and the risk will continue through about noon Friday.

Heat indices could reach 101 today with an actual temperature near 95. After today we will have a considerable cool down for the weekend.

Pettis County is in a Flash Flood Warning from 7 PM tonight through 1 PM Friday. Flash Floods have very little warning times and is the number one severe weather killer. If camping, know what your risk is. Camping near creeks etc. can be dangerous if conditions are right for flash floods. If you can’t see the road under the water, do not cross. Turn Around Don’t Drown!
Remember when severe weather strikes, we'll inform you with Weathereye updates around the clock.
