If your sweetie gives you flowers for Valentine’s Day, here is how to keep them fresh and to get the most out of them.

According to Reader's Digest, those beautiful flowers you received on Valentine's Day can stay around a lot longer with these tips:

Don't throw away those last drops of soda! You can pour about 1/4 cup into the water in a vase full of cut flowers. The sugar in the soda will make the blossoms last longer. Now, if you have a clear vase and want the water to remain clear, use a clear soda, like Sprite or 7-Up.

There are several good methods to help keep cut flowers aroound even longer. One way is to mix 2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar and 2 tablespoons sugar with your vase water before adding the flowers. Be sure to change the water (with more vinegar and sugar, of course) every few days to help with the flowers' longevity.

One way to keeping cut flowers looking good as long as possible is to minmize the bacteria in the water in your vase. You can do this by adding a few drops of vodka, or any other clear spirit, along with 1 teaspoon  of sugar to help reduce the bacteria. As you change out the water every other day, add the vodka/sugar mixture.
