Stuff the Bus is coming to Sedalia this weekend. Mary Jo Sartin with C.A.C.T.U.S. (community and children teaming up for success) says the group is collecting school supplies for area children in need: "We're currently working very hard to collect school supplies. In fact, this Saturday we're having 'Stuff the Bus' at Walmart from 9-4. We'll be collecting donations of school supplies, or monetary donations. We'll also be signing up families that want to sign up their students to receive school supplies in August."

Sartin said that C.A.C.T.U.S. was able to help over 1,000 area students with school supplies last year: "We helped 1,855 students with backpacks and school supplies, and then during the school year we made 20 deliveries to schools. Sometimes those are for a few students, and sometimes those are for many."

Families that need assistance for school supplies from CACTUS are able to fill out applications, which are available at several locations around the area, including: Open Door, Missouri Valley Community Action Agency, Pettis County Community Partnership, Pettis County Health Center, and most local school offices. Families can also sign up for assistance online through the C.A.C.T.U.S. website. The agencies will have applications available through July 27, and the deadline for online applications is July 30.

Distribution of school supplies will be August 4-5. C.A.C.T.U.S. would also like to ask for the public's help in distributing the supplies. Those interested in volunteering can sign up online.
