An 82-year-old Green Ridge woman was killed in a head-on collision on US 65 Highway Thursday afternoon after she mistakenly drove north in the southbound lanes.

Mary Brandt was northbound in the southbound lanes of Highway 65 around 2:57 p.m. Thursday in a 2013 Volkswagen when she sideswiped a southbound 2011 Nissan driven by 72-year-old Judith L. Frisch of Lincoln, then struck a southbound 2002 Chevrolet driven by 65-year-old Paul D. Luetjen of Cole Camp. The accident happened near Smasal Road.

Brandt was pronounced dead at the scene by a University of Missouri Medical Director at 3:51 p.m. The body was transported to Heckart Funeral Home in Sedalia.

Luetjen was transported by Staff For Life Air Ambulance to University Medical in Columbia, the Missouri State Highway Patrol said.

Both the VW and Chevy were totaled and towed from the scene.

The Sedalia Police Department, Pettis County Sheriff's Department and the Benton County Sheriff's Department assisted the roughly nine Troopers at the accident scene, the report said.
