Five Classic Berenstain Bears Books to Read to Your Kids

While many kids and parents are familiar with the popular Berenstain Bears TV show, the books written by Stan and Jan Berenstain are timeless classics. With 260 million copies sold, Berenstain Books are a great way to spend time with the kids while teaching them valuable life lessons. Here are some favorites that deserve a spot in your children's books collection.
In this story, the Berenstain Bears are cleaning the house, but Brother and Sister Bear seem to be having trouble getting their room clean. They spend a lot of time arguing who's going to complete each task, until Mama Bear decided to throw ALL of their toys away in an effort to clean the room permanently. Can Brother and Sister Bear stop arguing long enough to save their toys? Give it a read and teach the kids a lesson in keeping a tidy room.
Sister Bear has a rough day at school when she gets hit by a bully. When Brother Bear goes to confront the bully, he learns that the bully is a younger girl named Tuffie. Brother Bear walks away from the fight and decides to give Sister Bear a lesson in self-defense. Find out what happens when Sister Bear confronts Tuffie in this lesson about why bullies act the way they do and the proper way to deal with them.
After Brother Bear gets tired of dealing with his younger sister, he and his buddies build a clubhouse with a sign that reads, "Bear Country Boys Club: NO GIRLS ALLOWED." Although Sister Bear's feelings are hurt, Mama Bear cooks up a plan to bring the kids together and convince the boys and girls to play nice with each other. When Brother and Sister Bear discover that they can get anything they want from Papa Bear by throwing tantrums, they use "The Gimmies" over and over again until Papa Bear reaches his breaking point. A great lesson about selfishness and whining, you might want this book within arm's reach at all times.
Perhaps one of the most important Berenstain Books in the collection, this book teaches young children the dangers of strangers and what to do if they are approached by an adult that they don't know. It's up to Sister Bear to prevent Brother Bear from getting into a bad situation after their parents teach them about "bad apples." The book includes a list of rules for dealing with strangers on the last page that could prevent a potentially hazardous situation.
