Five Bands You Shouldn’t Miss at the Missouri Big Ass Rock Festival
Something heavy is headed for Lincoln, Mo. in May, and BOB listeners who prefer the more rockin' end of the "whatever we want" we like to play need to check out this event. The Missouri Big Ass Rock Festival on May 17-19 will include 25+ bands, camping and a whole lot of partying over three days at the Walters Ranch.
Some of these bands may be a little off the beaten path for you, but at $55 for three entire days of music, they are definitely worth checking out. I've taken the liberty of featuring some of the ones you won't want to miss.
So, what exactly is Red Dirt Metal? According to these guys, you take outlaw country, toss in a dash of Southern-fried classic rock and mix it with some potent Texas power grooves and you've got the sound the band has been honing and cultivating for its entire existence. "We want the people that love Molly Hatchet, ZZ Top, .38 Special, the Van Zandts and those bands that are growing older to know that somebody else out there is already waving the flag high," says frontman Big Dad Ritch.
This Missouri based alt-rock band have certainly made the rounds across the Show-Me State and should be familiar to a lot of fans of the genre. After undergoing a series of lineup changes, these guys are bringing their reputation for a great live show to the festival, so don't miss the performance from the hometown boys.
Everything you love about '80s glam metal will be at the Big Ass Rock Festival in the form of Nasty Habit. Fans of Motley Crue, Poison, Guns & Roses and Steel Panther are not going to want to miss what is guaranteed to bring you back to the days of giant hair, both musically and visually. "This band is so much more than a youth-gone-wild glam jam or an Aquanetted pastiche. This is loud, loose and raucous fun; a celebration of defiance, decadence, and sex appeal," says Frank DeBlase of the Rochester City News. A quick honorable mention goes out to Emerald City, another great hair metal band that will be at the festival as well.
Based out of northwest Arkansas, Black Water has been touring the south and beyond for the past four years. They've headlined many events and has also opened for such national acts as Quiet Riot, LA Guns, Firehouse, Poison, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Black Oak Arkansas and many others. Opening for bands like that, you know they;re worth seeing.
Trash the Brand is a band from the stretch of I-40 known as the “Music Highway” between Memphis and Nashville, Tn. Blending styles and influences that range from delta blues to country gold to hard rock and metal, Trash the Brand has developed a sound and style all their own. Vocalist Scotty Austin is a native Missourian, so here's another hometown hero to come support.
