‘First Friday’ Event at Katy Depot to Feature Portrayal of America’s First Female Photojournalist

The second in the series of 'First Friday' events at the Katy Depot will be held this Friday and will feature Missouri Humanities Council speaker Dianne Moran, as Jessie Tarbox Beales. 

Beales was American’s first female photojournalist and is known for documenting the 1904 St. Louis World’s Fair. According to a press release from the Katy Depot, Moran’s portrayal considers Beales’ frenetic professional and personal life in an era when men dominated the professions. Memorabilia from the World’s Fair will also be on display.

Moran is a Chautauqua scholar, folklorist, and naturalist. She performs throughout the Midwest. Moran has previously portrayed Zerelda Samuel James, the mother of Jesse and Frank James, at a 2014 'First Friday' program.

Refreshments will be served at 5:30 with the presentation following at 6 p.m. The First Friday events are open to the public, but seating is limited and reservations are required. A $5 suggested donation will be taken at the door.
