We're getting into sever thunderstorm season. In fact, we just had one that knocked out power to a bunch of people at the end of April. If there's one thing you can find plenty of on YouTube, it's weather videos. Whether you're looking for snowstorms, tornadoes or floods, it's usually not hard to find footage of local extreme weather conditions.

Check out some of these awesome videos we found. There's a video of a tornado shot from the air. There's a Sedalia street that would be easier to cross with a boat, rather than a car. There's hail. There's snow. There's even a rainbow.

With severe thunderstorm season coming up, it's probably a good idea to make review all of the important safety information for this time of year. The American Red Cross offers these safety tips:

  • Learn about your local community’s emergency warning system for severe thunderstorms
  • Discuss thunderstorm safety and lightning safety with all members of your household
  • Pick a safe place in your home for household members to gather during a thunderstorm This should be away from windows, skylights and glass doors that could be broken by strong winds or hail
  • Make a list of items to bring inside in the event of a severe thunderstorm
  • Make trees and shrubbery more wind resistant by keeping them trimmed and removing damaged branches
  • Protect your animals by ensuring that any outside buildings that house them are protected in the same way as your home
  • Consult your local fire department if you are considering installing lightning rods
  • Get trained in first aid and learn how to respond to emergencies

The Red Cross also suggests putting together an emergency preparedness kit, which includes:

  • Water—one gallon per person, per day
  • Food—non-perishable, easy-to-prepare
  • Flashlight
  • Battery-powered or hand-crank radio (NOAA Weather Radio, if possible)
  • Extra batteries
  • First aid kit
  • Medications (7-day supply) and medical items
  • Multi-purpose tool
  • Sanitation & personal hygiene items
  • Copies of personal documents
  • Cell phone with chargers
  • Family & emergency contact information
  • Extra cash

And, of course, it is important to know the difference between a watch and a warning.

Severe Thunderstorm Watch - Severe thunderstorms are possible in and near the watch area. Stay informed and be ready to act if a severe thunderstorm warning is issued.

Severe Thunderstorm Warning - Severe weather has been reported by spotters or indicated by radar. Warnings indicate imminent danger to life and property.

Be safe, and don't shoot any videos for YouTube in the middle of an emergency!
