The Osage Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution will host a Mobile Veteran Center from Columbia, MO on March 18, from 9:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., at the Celebration Center in Sedalia.
The Mobile Vet Center is equipped to offer readjustment counseling, in a wide range of psycho-social services, offered to Veterans, Service members, and their families, in an effort to make a successful transition from military to civilian life.
The services offered include, individual and group counseling, family counseling for military-related issues, bereavement counseling for families who experience an active-duty death, military sexual counseling and referrals, outreach and education, substance abuse assessments, employment assessments and referrals, VBA benefits explanation, and screenings and referrals for medical issues including TBI, depression, and more.
The event begins at 9:30 Saturday morning with the American Legion Post 642 Color Guard.
The Missouri State American Legion Chaplain, Dr. Nicholas J. Gray, will lead the opening prayer. Then, Captain Tony Sahlfeld, a Vietnam Veteran, will speak.
Retired Sedalia Police Detective, Jim Gaertner, will speak about "The Healing Box Project," which includes guitar therapy.
There will also be a Veteran Memorial Wreath presentation by the Stephen Ministry team from First United Methodist Church. There will also be free "Hairstyles for Veterans" offered. Light refreshments will be available at the event.
