The Boys & Girls Clubs of West Central Missouri is hoping area residents will help the Club “Take Pride In Our Ride” by donating to a new capital campaign.

For the last several years the Club has used a small school bus first manufactured in 1989. With a host of engine problems that routinely put the bus out of service, Club staff believe the time has come to raise funds for a new 12-passenger van.

“Our current bus is outdated,” said Communications Coordinator Emily Jarrett. “Our chief concern, however, is safety. With a new van, parents will know their children have safe, reliable transportation to and from educational field trips.”

The importance of a new van was made very clear earlier this summer, with the start of two new programs – Outdoor Adventures and Gardening. Both require Club members to be bussed from the Summer Program Sites to various locations.

“Both of these programs get kids out into their world, exploring nature,” Jarrett said. “We don’t want to have to cancel a program just because our bus has broken down again and is in the shop. It’s not fair to our Club members.”

Donations at all financial levels are welcomed for the new van. Levels range from $25 to help paint a small portion of the van to $5,000 to help purchase the engine block. Special perks will be awarded to those who donate $2,500 or more to campaign.

“We’re hoping that by offering lower levels of financial support, parents and families of members will get involved in contributing to this campaign,” Jarrett said. “Some of our donation and sponsorship levels may be a little out of reach for our families, but this is a real way that a little money can go a long way.”
