The 20th annual Cupid's Ball will be at Smith-Cotton High School in February. Tickets go on sale January 5.

"It's a father/daughter dance," said Susan Mergen with the Women's Service League of Sedalia, organizers of the Cupid's Ball. "We have grandfathers, we have uncles... it's little girls ages 5-12 that want a special evening out with their special guy."

The theme for the 2017 Cupid's Ball is Dance Your Heart Out. The ball will be Saturday, February 25 from 6:30-9 p.m.

"The ball sort of ends the day," said Mergen. "We know a lot of girls get their hair done, they get their nails done, they go out for dinner. It's really a special night for little girls. Interstate Studios comes and they take a professional photograph, a 5x7, each person will get one. We're also going to have crafts, of course dancing, and light refreshments. We try to make it special every year."

Online tickets sales for the Cupid's Ball begin on January 5. Tickets will only be available online. Those interested in attending are encouraged to purchase tickets early, as the event regularly sells out. Tickets are $20 per person.

Proceeds from the Cupid's Ball are donated to local charities, according to Mergen. "We focus on education, so we've been able to give back to the Sedalia School District and Sacred Heart Schools with equipment, computer equipment. The last couple years we've been able to give them money so they can buy adaptive equipment for special needs children." Last year, the Women’s Service League donated $6,951.55 to the Pettis County Early Childhood Cooperative for the purchase of a zip line, crash pit and other motor skill equipment. The equipment is used to help strengthen muscles, increase coordination and influence fine motor skills.
