Humor's gone high tech.

Teatreneu, a comedy club in Barcelona, has introduced a radical new way of doing business: customers only have to pay for the jokes that make them laugh (which could've netted this guy some big money).

Each laugh will cost you 38 cents, with a maximum of $30 you can spend. Audience members are charged based on facial-recognition software on the backs of the seats in front of them, which keeps tabs on their smiles and laughs to determine how much the bill will be.

The system was introduced after Spain introduced a huge jump on taxes for theater tickets, which caused plummeting attendance at venues.

It seems as if everyone is now smiling. While admission is free, turnout has soared 35% and people are spending about $8 more than they had before, which, clearly, has the club owner laughing all the way to the bank.
