On Monday night, the Sedalia City Council approved paying for reconstruction of the aircraft parking apron at the Sedalia Regional Airport at a cost of $1.4 million.

Airport Manager Eric Bowers said that federal dollars will pay for about 90 percent of the cost of the $1,405,403.75 project, and the City will pay around 10 percent.

Emery Sapp and Sons, Inc., is the contractor for the rehab project, which includes reconstructing a portion of the aircraft parking apron and rehabilitate the remaining portion of aircraft parking.

“It is the main parking area for aircraft that's coming & going. Next spring, we will start a reconstruction project that will completely rehabilitate and rebuild that entire parking area,” Bowers said.

Bowers noted that it is a 90-day project that will allow an additional 30 feet on the back side of the parking apron. “It actually makes our parking capacity a little higher just from reconfiguration,” he said.
