Chris Stapleton Ready to Remove His Finger Splint, Return to Stage

The splint on Chris Stapleton‘s right index finger is coming off, and he’s going to walk on stage for the first time on Thursday night (June 22). The “Either Way” singer postponed several weeks’ worth of shows after sustaining a hand injury last month.

It was never made clear how Stapleton injured his finger, but it required a serious splint and a reshuffling of concert dates. “On my way to Tulsa where this will come OFF & it will be ON!” he writes on Instagram on Wednesday (June 21):

A day after announcing the canceled and postponed shows, Stapleton shared a few more details. He broke a bone and tore a tendon in the finger, and a doctor said he’d only be able to play guitar again after some physical therapy.

“There is little in this world that I enjoy more than getting to make music with all of you night after night,” he said, wrapping a letter to fans. “Thank you for the privilege.”

Anderson East and Brent Cobb will join Stapleton in Tulsa, Okla. — Thursday night’s stop on the All-American Road Show Tour. Margo Price, Lucie Silvas, Brothers Osborne and Marty Stuart will join him for other stops on a run that stretches through November and includes three shows with Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers.

Eight of Stapleton’s postponed shows have been rescheduled, but he did have to fully cancel CMA Festival performance earlier this month. Look for Stapleton at Country on the River in Prairie Du Chien, Wisc. on August 4.
