Karl Urban Says He’s in Talks for ‘Judge Dredd: Mega-City One’ TV Series

A potential TV reboot of Judge Dredd seemed like tacit admission that Dredd sequel was never getting off the ground, just as producer hopes to return Karl Urban to the role were wishful thinking at best. Now, Urban himself says “discussions” are taking place, and if he likes the Mega-City One material, “I will be there.”

Aaron Sorkin’s ‘Lucy and Desi,’ Starring Cate Blanchett as Lucille Ball, Lands at Amazon Studios

Now this is a thrilling combination of nouns: Amazon Studios has snatched up Lucy and Desi, an upcoming biopic written by Aaron Sorkin and starring Cate Blanchett as TV icon Lucille Ball. A masterful actress playing a masterful comedian in a film scripted by a masterful screenwriter is quite a catch, to say the least — all that’s missing is Desi himself, and given the talent involved so far, you have to imagine it’ll be someone great.

Rumor: Daniel Craig Set to Play Bond in Two More Movies, Reportedly Had Beef With Sam Mendes

Remember when Daniel Craig famously said he’s rather slash his own wrists than suit up again as 007? There’s probably a handful of reasons Craig was hesitant to return to the franchise, from the intense physical demands of the role to the time commitment to playing a celebrated, though not-all-that-creative iconic character. (Bond isn’t exactly a role that lends an actor much creative license, unlike say, Joe Bang in Logan Lucky where Craig gets to roll around in sheer kookiness.) But according to new rumors, there was another reason that Craig may have been reluctant to rejoin the franchise for Bond 25, and now, Bond 26.

‘Deadpool 2’ Reveals First Official Look at Josh Brolin’s ‘Grumpy, Heavily Armed’ Cable

If you’ve got a serious case of the Mondays, then Ryan Reynolds has just what you need to turn that frown upside down. Deadpool 2’s leading man has unveiled our first official look at Josh Brolin’s Cable, whose frown remains firmly planted in the downward position, seemingly (and predictably) unimpressed with Reynolds’ signature snark. Regardless of his grouchy demeanor, Brolin does look pretty awesome as the Merc With a Mouth’s classic foil.

‘It’ Director Also Wants to Tackle Stephen King’s ‘Pet Sematary’

As a die-hard Stephen King fan, I have a theory: we need one or two filmmakers who truly understand his work to adapt all of his films. Take Frank Darabont. The writer-director has worked on three of King’s most successful adaptations - The Shawshank Redemption, The Green Mile, and The Mist - and seems to understand the world in King’s head better than any five other filmmakers put together. Given the current wave of ‘80s nostalgia, we’re likely to see more King books be adapted to film, and finding a cinematic King Whisperer would go a long way to avoiding middling adaptations like The Dark Tower.

Weekend Box Office Report: ‘The Dark Tower’ Does Not Fall

With two new releases and a third movie switching from a limited to a wide release, this was a weekend of big changes at the box office. Gone are familiar stalwarts like Wonder Woman and Baby Driver, and in its place are (with respect) the also-rans of summer, a few genre-driven films looking to carve out a name for themselves in a time of year devoid of major blockbuster releases. Here are the numbers as of Sunday afternoon:

‘The Mummy’ Director Alex Kurtzman Not Sure About His Future in the Dark Universe

Alex Kurtzman’s reboot of The Mummy was… well, hoo boy. It was not well received by audiences or critics upon its release earlier this year, and was not a great start to Universal’s monster reboot franchise Dark Universe. Its reception also doesn’t bode well for Kurtzman, who is currently unsure about his future in the franchise.
