Sedalia’s Weekend Events – Weekend of December 23
Here are a few things going on this weekend!
Here are a few things going on this weekend!
The end of the year brings the mad dash for my fellow employees to try and take some time off for the holidays, so I am off for three days this week. Nothing like taking time off to do last minute shopping for the holidays! However, I also volunteered to help out the Skyline Elementary 3rd Grade for a day putting together gingerbread houses.
Kids, we here in Sedalia keep up with what's going on around here. But sometimes we gotta remember that there are lots of other great towns in and around our listening are, and they look out for their own just as much as we do in Sedalia.
It's been one hell of a great beer week for us. We've learned which brews are awesome gifts (and apology presents for grabbing the wrong "Christmas hams" at the office party) and which ale we should choose to celebrate the impending end of the world. Now, we're stoked to bring you the so-called "world's best beer."
It is a tradition at the radio station to commemorate each employee's birthday with a cake. Each cake is decorated to reflect the personality of the individual having their special day. This year, the staff decided on a "Caddyshack" theme for my cake. That's a perfect theme for me. Plus an opportunity to quote the movie in the break room as we all fill our faces.
The holiday season has many different holidays that are celebrated, whether it be Christmas on Dec. 25, Chanukah starting on Dec. 8, Kwanzaa starting on Dec. 26 or a few others that are celebrated around the world. However, one that I celebrated when I was living in Germany is celebrated today (Dec. 6). It is St. Nicholas Day. This is not the day he was born as you may think, but is the day he died in AD 343, and thus is called the St. Nicholas Feast Day.
The new seven dollar cup of Starbucks coffee left talk show host Jimmy Kimmel wondering: would people even notice a difference between the regular cup and the premium?
With Hostess going out of business, everyone is worried that they will never again enjoy the cream filled sponge cake known as the Twinkie. Luckily, there are 110 companies that are currently in a bidding war for Hostess' brands.
The Twinkie will live on, but what do we do in the meantime? After all, we're Americans. We want instant gratification. Thanks to Todd Wilbur, you can now make them at home!
I think there is a reason that most people eat turkey once a year: you realize on the second day of leftovers that it's just not that good. In fact, I think it ranks right up there with Spam.
Kids, the other day we here at KIX asked you guys what your absolute least favorite holiday food was. You can see the results here, or vote if you haven't. Well, the leader, not too surprisingly was Fruitcake.
But, in theory, Fruitcake should be delicious, right? I mean, people like fruit, and people like cake. Fruit pies are always good. So what the heck is wrong with Fruitcake? Are we just all collectively doing it wrong? Is there a right way? Turns out, there could be.
