Carrie Underwood took the American Idol stage for the last time and brought the show's performances to a close on Thursday night (April 7). The Season 4 winner stood on a pedestal to sing "Something in the Water" from her Greatest Hits album.

Blue lights streaked all around her as she jubilantly performed the cathartic power ballad. It's a song of faith that showcases her big voice as well as any. Fans who'd forgotten how or why she won in 2005 — or those too young to watch — got a great reminder during this righteous performance.

Afterward, Underwood walked to the front of the stage to talk to host Ryan Seacrest about her upcoming Storyteller Tour dates. Tickets for many shows go on sale on Friday, she revealed after admitting the show's finale made her a little teary-eyed.

This was Underwood's second performance of the night, following a duet with Keith Urban. She and the Idol judge opened the country collaborations with a cover of "Stop Draggin' My Heart Around," made famous by Tom Petty and Stevie Nicks. The two are also set to sing together on Urban's upcoming Ripcord album. Their song is called "The Fighter."
