Cam’s Faith in People Restored After Visiting Las Vegas Shooting Victims

A post shared by Cam (@camcountry) on

Cam traveled to Las Vegas to visit and raise funds for victims of the mass shooting that took place on Oct. 1, and though she admits their stories were hard to hear, the experience helped restore her faith in people.

The singer visited survivors and their families at Sunrise Hospital on Thursday (Oct. 19), singing for them and the staff and hearing their stories from the Route 91 Harvest Festival before performing that night to raise money at Vegas Strong — A Night of Healing.

“Not gonna lie it was hard on my heart to hear what everyone went through, but the surprising part was the overwhelming amount of stories that restored my faith in humanity,” Cam posts to Instagram to accompany a photo of someone wearing a #VegasStrong bracelet.

“Who would’ve guessed that kindness was so automatic?? That heroism came naturally to SO many people that night?” she asks, saying, “I know the healing will take a while … but all these good people will have ups and downs as they recover and wrap their heads around it all, and they will need our support and love for a long time. Listen to them, give hugs, spread kindness, and sing whenever you can.”

Sierra Black, Cam, Big & Rich and Rascal Flatts were all on the bill at the Vegas Strong concert, which took place at the Orleans Arena in front of a crowd of about 6,000, according to the Las Vegas Sun. Tickets were free, and attendees included many first responders and even the family of 21-year-old Erick Silva, who was working security at the Route 91 festival when he was shot and killed while trying to help concertgoers flee the shooting spree that killed 58 people and wounded more than 500 others. Organizers accepted donations on site, and the profit from food and drink sales will go toward a fund for the shooting victims.
