Brett Young has dropped a studio version of Gavin DeGraw's "Not Over You." Press play below to hear Young's cover of his idol's 2011 single, recreated as part of the Spotify Singles program.

The song was the first single from DeGraw's fourth studio album, 2011's Sweeter. "Not Over You" was co-written by DeGraw and Ryan Tedder of OneRepublic, but Young's version of the No. 1 Adult Top 40 hit turns the piano-driven melody into a guitar-focused one, but keeps the lush instrumentation of the original intact.

Young and DeGraw are longtime friends and, more recently, collaborators. As a fan, Young tells the Boot, he met DeGraw twice; the second time around, the two kept in touch, but as his own career began rising, Young avoided asking DeGraw to write together because he didn't want to be seen as taking advantage of their friendship.

"I've never in 12 years wanted to mix business and pleasure," Young says. "I didn't want him to have to question my motives as a friend, so I just never asked."

However, Young worked up the courage to ask DeGraw to co-write for his sophomore album, 2018's Ticket to L.A. Together, the two penned the song "Chapters" for that project.

"He goes, 'Alright, one thing though: You keep telling me your label wants that song that's not about a girl, that they want a life song. We gotta write your story,'" Young shares. "That was his stipulation."

Beginning in April, Young will hit the road with Kelsea Ballerini. Young is a special guest on Ballerini's Miss Me More Tour.
