Officers with the Sedalia Police Department and troopers from the Missouri State Highway Patrol were called to a residence in the 200 block of S. Park on Friday afternoon after a bullet hole was observed in a front window of the home.

According to a press release from the Sedalia Police Department, an officer had accompanied a resident of the home to gather her belongings from the residence. The officer saw the bullet hole, asked the woman if it had been there before, and she said that it had not. The officer and the woman retreated to a safe distance.

Additional officers were called to the scene, as was the Missouri State Highway Patrol. The Patrol dispatched a robotic device with camera capabilities through the front door. It was determined that it was safe for officers to enter.

The body of a 32-year-old man, identified by police as Matthew Allen Johnson, was discovered inside the residence. Police believe Johnson was killed from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
