First off, let me clarify my statement. It was Bigfoot the truck, and not Bigfoot the manimal.

On Wednesday, March 29, Lucas Oil Speedway held it's Media Day. Randy Kirby and myself headed down 65 Highway to Preston and turned right on 54 Highway and on to Wheatland, MO. (Population 371...Saaaahlute!)

The biggest attendance for Lucas Oil Speedway in 2016 was the Monster Truck event. Bigfoot was a part of that show with the attendance on that date at 7,048.

Bigfoot showed up at the media day. Bigfoot has been around for 42 years. A St. Louis native, Bob Chandler, began building his first one in 1975. In 1979, Chandler started making appearances at truck and tractor pulls, and the rest is history. There have been 21 Bigfoots built over the years.

I visited with a driver that handled Bigfoot for the last 28 years. Dan Runte had many stories to tell of his years in the monster truck. His favorite memory was going to Kuwait to visit troops.

Another big event for Dan and Bigfoot was jumping a 727 airliner as you can witness in the following video.

The race schedule gets underway April 8 and continues until October 21 when the Monster Truck Nationals-Eve of Destruction closes out the racing season.
