Behka’s Enquiring Minds Recap: Week of April 28

I’ve been looking for new ways to interact with you guys recently, and I decided to just start directly asking questions. That’s what the Enquiring Minds surveys are all about! I wanna know what you guys think about different topics, and I’ve been sharing your answers on the air.  You remember the old ad from the National Enquirer: Enquiring Minds Want to KNOW! Well, I stole that and I’m running with it.  So here’s a look at some of your answers from this week.

On Monday, I asked you guys about you and your kids. What adult responsibilities do your children have? Or, what ‘adult’ things did you do when you were younger because you had to?

My kids sort their own laundry week and have been doing that since they were about 2 years old. Both can fold clothes. Both are responsible for putting their folded clothes away. My 10 year old unloads and reloads the dishwasher. Our youngest (7) sets the table. Both help clear it and put stuff away. They are of course responsible for their own rooms. They do help out with other chores in the house too.

Wow, that’s awesome!  I didn’t know how to do my own laundry til I was in my teens.  I don’t think my  mom trusted me with stuff like that.  Now pulling weeds, she definitely had me doing that.  Every time we’d go to my grandmother’s to mow her lawn, I was on weed duty.

When we were kids we had to do all the chores, because mom and dad worked. That included washing dishes, dusting, sweeping, mopping, making beds, cleaning the bathroom, grocery shopping, and cooking. We also had to babysit, mow the lawn, help with the garden, and occasionally paint and do house repairs.

Oh, wow. You win. You will all the respect in life.  There is no way I can top that.

On Tuesday, I saw an article that said that an increasing number of people have buyer’s remorse about their homes. I don’t have something that extreme, so I asked you what things you bought over the years that you wish you hadn’t.

My case of buyer’s remorse was when I first got married.  I had some serious Mother in Law buyer’s remorse.  I wanted to return my wife if she turned out like her mother!

Hardy har har! I got that one in a call to the station. Everybody likes a good joke – I should get into the field of pioneering some father-in-law jokes or something.

My first car was a Chevy Vega. Need I say more?

NOPE! There you go, another listener who said it all. Best answer ever.

On Wednesday, I talked about how Teacher Appreciation Day is coming up on May 6. So I asked: Who were your favorite teachers over the years, and why?

Mrs Mcknew, She was just the greatest.  She was fun loving and cared about all her kids.  Each day when the bell rang to go home, she gave each of us a hug before we left.  She was my Third Grade Teacher. One of the best :)

Awww, now that’s a sweet story! That’s really nice, really tugs at the heartstrings there…… I’M NOT CRYING. YOU’RE CRYING, NOT ME.

The one that didn’t hit me.

Aaah, now that’s better. That’s the snarky listener response I know and love! So what’s that, Catholic School? My only frame of reference for that is the nun from The Blues Brothers, so take that for what it’s worth.

On Thursday, I asked you guys about your job.  I’ve had some doozies, over the years.   If you could change one thing about your job, what would it be?

Managers being more responsible and learn people skills.

OH WOW, do I know that one. But then, in college, I had the sweetest terrible boss ever. He was so nice… when he was sober. He lived on the premises of the store I worked at, and the job was fine if he wasn’t drinking. When he did… bad stuff happened. Let’s just say one time I had to partially drag him into his apartment because he was too far gone to walk.

Get rid of LAZY people !!!

I also know this one! I had a coworker who would, on routine, not get his work done. It was par for the course to just.. not have his work done. In fact, one day he told me he was too busy to do something and asked me to do it for him – and then played Angry Birds on his phone in the lobby for an hour. There were at least two other people who WORKED in the lobby. They knew he was playing the game, and they reported him, but for some reason he was surprised. Really?!

I think so far we’ve had a lot of fun with you guys, asking you questions and getting all sorts of interesting, honest, and funny answers. Anyway, this was pretty fun, and you guys seemed to enjoy it, too. We’ll start fresh again on Monday with another question, and you guys can call in or answer on Facebook or our website and I’ll read ‘em out on the air. But don’t think you can’t still take all our surveys if you missed one. Fill out any or all of our polls and surveys and you could get some more points for great prizes, like our 100 Days of Iron giveaway.

Enquiringly yours,

Behka
