Show Me Honor Flight veterans were welcomed home last night (Oct. 29), and what a welcoming they received! As they exited of I-70 from their all day event, they were greeted by 25 roaring motorcycles waiting for them at Marshall Junction to escort them home. As they came into Sedalia and over the railroad tracks downtown, a large group of citizens were there to greet them, as well as the Sedalia Fire Department. The fire department sprayed two archways of water over the bus as it passed through, and on the other side were people waving and cheering them home. They traveled down Ohio to 3rd and then turned right off of 3rd to Osage, coming to a stop at City Hall to one of the largest groups that have welcomed the Honor Flights home.
I know a lot of you always look forward to some of the photos I take during an event. You don't know how much that really touches my heart. I hope you really enjoy this series. Not only because it is of the Homecoming Parade, but it is from my point of view since I am on my class reunion's float
Dirt, mud and lots of water is what makes for a good off road weekend, especially when you are on a 4-wheeler, 3-wheeler or even a cross-country motorbike. Admission to the 6th Annual Jake Helmig ATV Memorial Ride last Saturday (Sept. 7) was just $2 to get in and $10 for each ATV or bike. There was plenty of food to be eaten, from brats, hamburgers, pulled pork and fried chips. There was no reason to be hungry.
I traveled to Concordia, Mo. last weekend not for their fair, but for something that was much more prominent to me: the Traveling Vietnam Memorial Wall. I have been to the monument In Washington D.C. when I was given the opportunity to go as an escort for The Honor Flight and to photograph the entire event. The Wall in Concordia is 3/5 in scale to the one in D.C. It was still impressive even in it's smaller version. They call the monument in D.C. "The Wall that Heals." There are approximately 58,000 servicemen and women names that are etched in the black granite panels in D.C.
It was a beautiful evening to welcome home the 12th Honor Flight in Sedalia, Mo. They were escorted by a group of about 75 local motorcycle riders from Marshall Junction to Sedalia on Tuesday night (Sept. 3).
The thunderous sounds of rumbling motorcycles came rolling into Sedalia at the State Fair's Campgrounds for Labor Day Weekend. There was a lot of fun to be had at the Campgrounds. They had several vendors selling motorcycle products, clothing and some great food. There were live bands playing in the evening for the ending of the days' events.
Today (Aug. 29), emergency personnel in Sedalia helped lay to rest one of their own. Kenny M. Stone passed away in the line of duty on Aug. 23, 2013. Kenny served our community as a paramedic. He most recently worked for APSI in Sedalia, but had spent a career serving at the Sni-Valley Volunteer Fire Department where he was assistant chief, as well as Oak Grove EMS and Lifeguard Ambulance. Today, EMS and fire departments from the area came to help give Kenny a hero's sendoff.
Historic Downtown Sedalia was the backdrop once again for the 2013 Sedalia Downtown Criterium Bike Race. The races started around 4 p.m. on Saturday (Aug. 24), starting with the first of five men's races. They also held two women's races and one junior race. The Final Men's Race started at 9 p.m.
