The Smith-Cotton Tigers will be hosting the 2013 McDonald's Boys & Girls Basketball Tournament at Smith-Cotton High School.  The McDonald's Boys Classic will be held on Jan. 10-12 and the McDonald's Girls Classic will be held on Jan. 17-19.

Bing’s in Sedalia Fills Twinkie Void With “Dreamies”

2012 brought about the end of Hostess and the beloved Twinkie. I can remember many sporting events where the reward for a good game or what brought your spirits up afterwards was a Twinkie. Even my wife introduced me to the idea of cutting a Twinkie in half and putting strawberries over it to make a Strawberry Shortcake.  I admit, Twinkies were not my favorite dessert, but I have been craving them lately.

However, I believe I have found the replacement for the Twinkie, and it lies in Bing's in Sedalia.  It is called Mrs. Freshley's Dreamies Creme-Filled Cakes. I saw a display box for them and thought to give them a try.

State Fair Community College Basketball Returns to the Hardwood

The State Fair Community College Lady Roadrunners are off to a flying start for their season and are 11-3. The Lady Roadrunners begin Region 16 Basketball versus Three Rivers Community College at the Fred E. Davis Multipurpose Building Tuesday night at 6 p.m. This will be the opening game of Region 16 and is a Midwest Community College Athletic Conference game for both these teams.  However, Three Rivers is 12-2 on the season. Denny Perkins will broadcast the game on Newstalk 1050 KSIS and over the web at ksisradio.com

Pledge 4 Patriots Bringing Mentalist “The Amazing Kreskin” to Sedalia

Pledge 4 Patriots is bringing The Amazing Kreskin to the Liberty Center in Sedalia this Saturday, Jan. 12 at 7 p.m.  This show on Saturday will not only help first responders, but proceeds from the show will be used to help pay for the relocation of and treatment for 4-year-old Lucas Luhrs of Sedalia, who was diagnosed with leukemia.

The Kansas City Chiefs finished their season at 2-14, and Head Coach Romeo Crennel has already received the pink slip. Several other coaches also were let go from their teams: Andy Reid from Philiadelphia, Norv Turner from San Diego, Lovie Smith from Chicago, Ken Whisenhunt from Arizona, Pat Shurmur from Cleveland and Chan Gailey from Buffalo. Already the Chiefs have invited Reid to interview for the job, and more announcements are sure to follow.
