Skyline PTA Bans Sweets at Class Parties, Will Provide Healthy Snacks for Kids

This week, my son received a letter addressed to parents of Skyline Elementary students stating that the Skyline Parent Teacher Association (PTA) wanted to make some changes to class parties this year. The PTA wants to conform to the new Health Wellness Program that the Sedalia School District adopted last year and have asked parents to not provide any foods like cupcakes, cookies, candy or treat bags for any class parties. The Skyline PTA will now provide every child in every class with pretzels, Cheez-Its and juice instead.

The NFL Should Not Delay Games for Weather [OPINION]

The NFL season is young, but I'm already seeing a trend this year that I really don't want to see anymore. There have already been three games delayed or suspended due to weather. The NFL used to play games in any condition. Last Sunday (Sept. 15), there were two delays; Tampa Bay vs New Orleans and then San Francisco vs Seattle.

Sedalia School Board to Vote on Accepting Sedalia Parks and Rec’s Offer to Buy Jennie Jaynes Stadium Property

The pursuit to build a new high school activities stadium at Smith-Cotton High School continues today (Sept. 9). A few months ago, the Sedalia School Board voted to hire a construction manager to build a new athletic and activities center. The plans have been moving along ever since. Today, the Sedalia School Board will be voting on whether to accept and sign the contract that the Sedalia Parks and Rec Board voted on. They would pay $1 million to the Sedalia School Board for possession of the land.

Sedalia VFW Honors Veterans at Patriot Day Ceremony [PHOTOS]

The VFW Post 2591 held a Patriot Day Celebration at the Sedalia VFW last Sunday afternoon (Sept. 8). VFW Post Commander Larry Reven led the ceremony, recognizing veterans from the conflicts in Panama, Grenada, Kosovo, Bosnia, Desert Storm and the War on Terrorism.
