Eddie Redmayne Explains Approach to ‘Fantastic Beasts’ Sequel Titles
Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them is a pretty lengthy title, but no less of a mouthful than, say, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows — or pretty much any Potter film. With four more sequels on the horizon, one of our biggest questions about the series moving forward is how Warner Bros. will approach the titles. Fortunately, Eddie Redmayne has an answer.
James Gunn Backs Hidden ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ Easter Egg With 100,000 Dollar Pledge
Last fall, James Gunn revealed that there was still one Guardians of the Galaxy easter egg that hadn’t been discovered, sending fans scrambling to scrutinize the film in search of what the director called “the big one.” Over a year later, the easter egg still hasn’t been found, leading some dispirited folks to believe they’ve been sent on a wild goose chase. Now Gunn is putting his money where his mouth is, offering $100,000 to the fan who proves that the easter egg doesn’t exist.
‘The LEGO Batman Movie’ Trailer: The Dark Knight Returns (Again)
Although just about every character in The LEGO Movie was delightful enough to deserve their own spinoff, only one truly warranted it: Will Arnett’s hilariously narcissistic Batman. The new trailer for The LEGO Batman Movie expands on what made that character so great, functioning as both a loving sendup and amazing satire of the iconic superhero. It’s kind of perfect.
‘Dog Eat Dog’ Director Paul Schrader on Nicolas Cage, Trashy Cinema, and How to Make Strip Club Scenes Less Boring
After over 40 years of working in film, Paul Schrader remains as challenging as he was when he first caught Martin Scorsese’s attention with his screenplay for Taxi Driver. They made three more films together, but Schrader established himself as the more unconventional of the two when he took control of the camera. Decades later, Schrader’s filmography is just as prolific with singular titles like Hardcore, Cat People, and Dog Eat Dog — the latter is his most recent effort, a delirious crime thriller starring Nicolas Cage and Willem Dafoe that is every bit as wild as that simple description implies, and the reason for our conversation with the veteran filmmaker.
‘Beauty and the Beast’ Reveals Belle’s Reinvented Backstory and New High-Res Images
While we continue to wait for a full trailer (ahem, Disney, let’s do this already) for Beauty and the Beast, Disney has released nine new high-res images from the upcoming live-action remake. The stills (which you can view in the gallery above) feature beautiful, detailed looks at Emma Watson’s Belle, Dan Stevens’ Beast, Luke Evans’ Gaston, and all those charming animated household helpers. And although Bill Condon’s film looks pretty faithful to the original animated version, Watson has revealed that they made at least one significant change to the story — Belle’s backstory, specifically.
‘Doctor Strange’ Did Something Strange With ‘Transparent’ Star Amy Landecker’s Role
You might recall that Amy Landecker was one of the earlier names attached to star in Doctor Strange, but when you head to the theater this weekend to see Marvel’s latest superhero flick, you’ll have a hard time finding her on screen. In a recent interview, the Transparent star revealed what happened to her role in the MCU, and it’s…well, it’s definitely a bit strange.
New Amazon Prime Instant Video Releases: November 2016
Amazon is giving you plenty of things to be thankful for in November, adding dozens of new film and television titles to their streaming library — would it be too much to ask for an add-on program that takes the agony out of deciding what to watch, though? For instance, it’s a heavy first world burden to choose between the first season of AMC’s The Night Manager and binge-watching all of the Rocky movies (yes, even Creed). Before you know it, you’ve already wasted half of your Saturday browsing before you end up rewatching The Addams Family for the billionth time.
New Amazon Prime Instant Video Releases: September 2016
September is a big month for Amazon streaming releases, and if you have a Prime membership, there’s plenty to get excited about — like the highly-anticipated debut of Transparent Season 3. Also premiering next month are new shows from Tig Notaro and Woody Allen, as well as the addition of several films, including a handful of classic titles and recent favorites like The Witch and Sicario. Read on for our complete guide to Amazon Prime Instant Video’s new releases.
What’s Leaving Netflix Instant: August 2016
There’s a lot of great new stuff coming to Netflix Instant next month, but just as we prepare to load up our queues with the latest additions, so must we prepare to say goodbye to a handful of expiring titles. Now would be a good time to stop procrastinating and stop watching before these movies and TV shows disappear — possibly for a long, long time. Read on for our complete guide to everything that’s expiring from Netflix Instant in August.
New Movie Releases: August 2016
After a pretty disappointing summer, our hopes are high (but not, like, too high) for August to swoop in and deliver at least one or two entertaining blockbusters before the season ends. Fueling that optimism is the release of Suicide Squad, David Ayer’s comic book villain team-up that promises to inject a little fun in the DC movie universe. Next month also brings a new stop-motion adventure from Laika, an R-rated animated movie about talking food (you know, for the grown-ups) and Meryl Streep’s latest Oscars power play. Read on for our complete guide to next month’s new movie releases.
