There are several 9/11 Rememberances happening in the area and across the state today.
Gregg Favre, a captain with the St. Louis Fire Department who received the University of Central Missouri’s 2014 Outstanding Recent Alumni Award, will be the guest speaker at the 2015 Patriot Day 9/11 Remembrance Ceremony at UCM. The observance begins at 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 11, at the quadrangle. In case of inclement weather, the event will be moved to Hendricks Hall.
The public is invited to attend the annual ceremony, which is in remembrance of individuals who lost their lives in terrorist attacks on U.S. soil Sept. 11, 2001. In addition to Favre’s remarks, the event features a welcome by Deborah Curtis, UCM Provost-Chief Learning Officer; singing of the national anthem by A1C Andrew T. Smith, Whiteman Air Force Base; rifle tribute by Clinton High School Junior ROTC Armed Exhibition Team, directed by Lt. Col. Maella M. Blalock; performance of TAPS by A1C Thomas Richards and A1C Amanda Blossom, WAFB; and the firing of a cannon and return of flags to full- and half-mast by the UCM Army ROTC battalion.

Also part of the event will be a ceremonial bell ringing to honor first responders who lost their lives in 9/11. The bell ringing will be conducted by Scott Ammon, a local firefighter and UCM assistant professor of safety sciences, with participation by Warrensburg, Johnson County and WAFB firefighters. A moment of reflection, “And Then,” will be presented by Maj. Jason “J.C.” Christenson, professor of military science and leadership at UCM.
