The Missouri State Highway Patrol reported a two vehicle accident on March 13, around 1:40 in the afternoon, in Johnson County, that resulted in one fatality.

The accident occurred as a 2010 Dodge Avenger was travelling Northbound on MO Highway 131 and a 2015 Toyota Corolla was travelling Eastbound on Highway 50. The Dodge failed to yield and pulled into the path of the Toyota, causing the Toyota to strike the left rear of the Dodge. Both vehicle then traveled into the median and came to rest. The Dodge also struck a road sign and a utility pole in the median.

Four people were injured in the accident. 32-year-old Mary E. Peirce, of Odessa, suffered serious injuries in the wreck and her passenger suffered minor injuries. 20-year-old Molly A. Towne and 20-year-old Loan Tran, both of Warrensburg, suffered serious injuries as well. 14-year-old Shirley Tran, of Warrensburg, was killed in the accident.

All injured parties were transported to Centerpoint Hospital, in Independence, for treatment. Shirley Tran was transported to Sweeney-Phillips and Holdren Funeral Home in Warrensburg.
